Reviews Here's what our lovely guests have to say....

  • Ingrid, West Yorkshire September 2020

Let me start with the important reassurance that at Nithbank everything has been done to ensure your health and safety during the pandemic. For example, throughout the house you will find not one but two types of hand sanitiser on small tables, accompanied by pretty vases of fresh flowers. Other information about COVID-related matters is on the website.

It’s hard to find anything to say about this superb place and its owners that hasn’t already been mentioned by enthusiastic reviewers. From the pre-visit advice through to the bag of sweets for the ongoing journey, Melanie and John ensure that visitors have an exceptional stay, in luxurious and peaceful accommodation, with beautiful views (and many treats!). A few special mentions: of course, the delicious scones, with cream, jam and fresh strawberries on arrival; the stunning outlook from the Chamberlain’s Quarters over the river Nith and beyond; from the other window, the entrancing view of the bird feeders and their happy visitors; the best and softest bathrobes ever; the breakfast cranachan . . . and on and on.

We congratulate Melanie and John on what they have achieved, and wish them very many happy years as hosts of the best B&B in Scotland.

We had the most amazing stay here.

The location, grounds, decor, rooms, breakfast, welcome and overall attention to detail were all first class. We felt very spoiled, Melanie was so friendly and chatty as were the rest of her lovely family and gave us great recommendations for walks, places to eat and even offered to give us a lift when we were going out for dinner.
She made the most delicious scones for us each day accompanied by clotted cream and homemade jams.
It’s a five star award winning b&b and a very worthy winner.
I can’t recommend this lovely place highly enough, you won’t regret it, in fact you won’t want to leave!

Real luxury in every finishing touch and an amazing host!
We loved every single element of our stay here! Melanie (the owner) was just incredibly lovely, helpful and friendly. The room was beautiful and we could have just cosied up in there all weekend. The attention to detail was phenomenal; from the little honeymoon chocolates, the selection of teas, coffee machine, fresh milk, toiletries etc.
When we arrived we were greeted with warm homemade scones (normal and treacle!) with homemade jams which were delicious. The breakfast was enormous- full scottish fry up plus homemade granola, juices, fresh smoothies etc. It kept us going all day! It was obvious that Melanie did everything with love and loved her role.
There are also a couple of lovely pubs nearby for dinner. It was incredibly relaxing and we have already recommended it to a number of friends/ family. We would love to come back and stay longer in the future.
We loved everything – only wished we could have stayed longer! There is nothing that could have improved on our perfect stay.

    We loved staying here!

The rooms were large airy and beautifully decorated and the breakfasts were exceptional – delicious locally sourced ingredients. Mel and John made us very welcome – probably one of the best places we’ve stayed!

We’ll definitely go back when we’re back in Scotland.

Everything written below is true! It’s difficult to overstate how beautiful a place this is. The views are stunning, the grounds immaculate and tranquil, our bedroom one of the most elegant and charming rooms we’ve ever stayed in (which goes for the venue as a whole), and the service was flawless.

And if you don’t believe me, just the other week Nithbank was named best B&B in Scotland!

Then there’s Mel and John, who are two of the kindest and most generous hosts you could ever hope to meet. They’re just lovely and, yes, the myth re tea and scones/cakes on arrival is true!

There’s no doubt about it – we’ll be returning and soon!

My husband and I stayed at Nithbank Country Estate in The Chamberlain’s Quarters. It was fabulous!!

The house is stunning and the views over the gardens and river are beautiful.

The owners Mel and John go to great lengths to make sure you enjoy your stay. For example; warm scones with cream and jam on arrival, chocs from Moniaive, complimentary lifts to and from restaurants in the evening etc.

Breakfast was delicious – all locally sourced. Leaflets are available on places to visit and things to do in the surrounding area to complement Mel and John’s advice.

    Definitely worth a visit!

Before we arrived at Nithbank, Mel had been in touch and very kindly recommeded and booked two restaurants for us. John then gave us a lift there and back… Just all part of the service at Nithbank. He had even put on the seat warmers in the car and left it running outside, so it wasn’t cold when we got in the car!

Mel gave us the warmest of welcomes when we arrived, took us to our room which she had upgraded us to (Chamberlain Suite). The room was stunning, the bed is so comfortable and the original shutters at the window, ensure a great nights sleep.

But it’s also all the very thoughtful and personal touches that set Nithbank above everyone else. No sooner had we put our bags down, then Mel came back with warmed scones, clotted cream, jams and fresh strawberries, along with a pot of tea. on top of that, lots of teas to choose from, as well as a coffee machine and shortbread biscuits – well, it is Scotland!

There is also a fridge on the landing with milk and locally made lemonade, as well as a cupboard with glasses, incase you want to bring your own alcohol. the bathroom had the most amazing bath and shower.

Everything has been thought of and then a whole bunch of stuff on top. Everything is about the comfort of their guests but with a very keen eye on the enviroment, so it’s no wonder they also have a Gold award for being enviromentally friendly.

We stayed 29th Feb to 2nd March. His line when we drive out the gate was “that really is the best place we’ve ever stayed in”

We loved everything about our stay. From being so warmly met by Mel, to our chats with Mel and John at breakfast, the beautiful outlook and gardens, our amazing room that Mel upgraded us to, the shortbread, decaffeinated tea! the fridge containing milk and lemonade and the beautiful toiletries and not forgetting the warm scones on arrival. Literally everything has been thought of and then more on top! The house and grounds are beautiful and you are both fantastic hosts. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Nithbank to friends and family, although we’d hate to think you might be full when we want to come back!

The perfect getaway, in the perfect house, with perfect hosts!

    Relaxing, luxurious and tranquil…
What a superb bed and breakfast! We stayed for two nights and had the most fantastic time.
Set in beautiful surroundings, our stay was peaceful and calm. The room and residence were very clean and well-decorated, with a comfortable bed and good quality bed linen. Fresh scones (fruit and treacle) are offered with homemade jam – these were delicious eaten infant of the gorgeous views from our room (the Chamberlain’s quarters).
If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing and luxurious getaway this place is for you. I have to give credit for the use of local ingredients and eco-friendly toiletries. The breakfast was brilliant – you can tailor a Scottish breakfast, or choose from salmon, plus the fresh fruit and homemade granola were very tasty. Warm croissants accompany the meal and never failed to impress.
Melanie and John made our time at Nithbank even more special – they are the most lovely, helpful hosts, and were always more than happy to give advice on what to do and go the extra mile for us. Thank you again for such a lovely experience, we will be returning!
